Balance Weight Splitting Calculator

On a fan, weights can only go on the blades; on a balancing disc, only in the holes. When the calculated correction falls between two positions, it is split between the two neighbours so that the effect is the same.

Hole 1 is at 0°; angles and hole numbers increase in the same direction. All weights are assumed to sit on the same radius.

These tools are intended for preliminary assessment and training. Decisions on critical equipment should be based on on-site measurement and expert evaluation.

How to use

  1. Enter the correction weight and angle from your balancing calculation.

  2. Enter the number of blades or holes; position 1 is taken as 0°.

  3. Fit the two resulting weights at the positions shown, on the same radius.

Theory & formulas

The angle between neighbouring positions is Δ = 360°/N. If the target angle α lies θ1 from the lower and θ2 from the upper position:

m1 = m·sin(θ2)/sin(Δ), m2 = m·sin(θ1)/sin(Δ) (law of sines). The two vectors add up exactly to the target.

Splitting always needs slightly more total mass; the further apart the positions, the larger the difference.

Frequently asked questions

What if the radii differ?

What counts is mass × radius. Scale a weight fitted on a different radius by rcalc/ractual.
